FAQs

Q. What does the OdorStop do?
A. It treats the air by breaking down odor causing pollutants and dropping airborne particulate from breathing space.

Q. How does the OdorStop treat the air?
A. The OdorStop produces ozone, which is the effective cleansing agent that nature uses to purify the air.

Q. Is ozone safe?
A.
Yes. In fact, many hospitals around the world use large ozone generators to decontaminate operating rooms between surgeries. The rooms are sealed airtight before being filled with ozone which kills all remaining bacteria. Even though ozone is safe, at very high concentrations it can be irritating to mucous membranes and the respiratory system. That is why OdorStop Ozone Generators should only be used in unoccupied spaces.  People or pets should never be in an area being treated with high levels of ozone.

Q. How does nature produce ozone?
A. Ozone is created electrically during active thunderstorms. The electrical discharge creates a fresh sweet smell. The ultraviolet rays of the sun striking hydrocarbons in our atmosphere also create ozone.

Q. What are the benefits of using ozone?
A. Ozone is very effective in eliminating odors including tobacco smoke, animal and pet, food, mold and mildew, garbage, and much more. It is not a re-odorant. It totally destroys the offending gases that are the source of everything we smell. Unlike many other deodorizing methods, ozone actually oxidizes odors and bacteria as it encounters them. It will eliminate contaminants in the air, fabrics, and on the surface of the walls and ceilings. Basically, anywhere the air can get, ozone can get, and will eliminate the odor. Unlike deodorizers, there is no chemical smell or residue which some people are more offended by than the original odor. The area becomes truly free from odor.

Q. How much ozone do I need to completely eliminate odors?
A. It all depends on the environment you are working in. Humidity, temperature, the size of the area to be treated, the type of odor, and how embedded the odor is, are all factors. Generally speaking, the longer the odor has been in the area, the longer it will take to eliminate the odor. For example, an apartment that has been lived in by a heavy smoker may take as long as 24 hours, whereas a hotel room that had a smoker overnight should require only a 15-20 minute treatment. The OdorStop is a heavy duty commercial machine and is rated in milligrams per hour. The output will vary depending on the model you choose.

Q. How does the OdorStop ozone generator work?
A. OdorStop utilizes a technology referred to as a corona discharge. This technology duplicates the effect of lightning by using a special transformer that sends a current to a stainless steel screen attached to a ceramic plate. As a result, the O2 molecule is split into single O1 molecules, which recombine to other O2 molecules to become O3 Ozone (activated oxygen). This loosely attached oxygen atom then seeks to bond with bacteria and other odor causing pollutants in order to oxidize them.

Q. How does the OdorStop compare to air filters?
A. OdorStop does not rely on the air to pass through the machine to be cleaned like air filters. It’s not a filter at all. The OdorStop produces activated oxygen which reduces odors and settles out particulate, thereby eliminating them.

Q. Where should I place the OdorStop for maximum results?
A. The OdorStop should be placed in the area where the odor problem is strongest, preferrably in an elevated location. To treat an entire house or facility, OdorStop works best if it is placed near a cold air return with the furnace fan turned on. Allow a small amount of fresh air into the area being treated if possible.

Q. How long will the OdorStop last?
A. The OdorStop is made of the highest quality component material and superior craftsmanship that will allow you to enjoy it for many years. It is covered by a 5 year warranty.

Q. Is it difficult to setup?
A. No. Just install the included ceramic plates (included), plug it in, turn it on, and vacate the area. Install the OdorStop in any room, but try to find a place where it can be up off the ground four feet or more.

Q. How much maintenance is required with the OdorStop?
A. Minimal. All ozone generators allow air to pass through the unit and will eventually get dirty. Because of this, the ceramic plates and the optional pre-filter should be cleaned periodically depending on the amount of use and the environment. Simply remove the plates from the back of the unit by sliding them out like removing a CD. Then, wash the plates with a detergent or a spray cleaner, rinse, dry completely, and re-install. The plates will last 2-3 years or longer depending on use.

Q. Why would I choose a model with the additional benefit of UV?
A. The UV model is an excellent choice for any environment that cannot be exposed to high levels of ozone and yet has a need for odor control and/or sanitization. The ozone output can be set to its lowest setting and the continuous operation of the fan moving the air past the UV light continues to treat the area.

Q. How long will the UV bulb last?
A. The Odorstop comes with a top quality UV bulb which should be replaced about every 2 years or 8,000 hours.

Q. Is the UV bulb easy to change?
A. Yes, changing the bulb will require about 5 minutes and a small Phillips screwdriver. Directions come with the new bulb which is shipped freight free when ordered through OdorStop.

Warning: Do not look directly into UV light as severe eye damage may result. Protect eyes from UV light by disconnecting power before changing bulb.
